The Rules
Here you can find the rules to the game of Long Alley Skittles. The rules have been agreed and detailed below. Any queries should be directed to the League, this can be done at an meeting or by emailing the league via the link on the home page of this website.
ILKESTON LONG ALLEY
SKITTLES LEAGUE RULES
1. The name of the league shall be THE ILKESTON LONG ALLEY SKITTLES LEAGUE.
2. The tin shall be 3 feet 6 inches from the front pin and the minimum width of the tin shall be 1 foot 6 inches. Balls not delivered over the tin to be declared a no ball. Length of alleys to be not less than 23 feet and not more than 27 feet. White line to run in front of chock hole.
3. Teams to consist of five players. Teams must play with at least three players, with three pins per leg per man for absent players. No pins allowed in the event of a tie for a non player. If a player arrives after being allowed nine pins he shall not play.
4. The match will consist of three legs. Captains will toss for the choice of settings. The teams will throw alternatively, starting from number 5 on the second leg. Two points will be awarded to the team which scores the highest aggregate of pins over three legs. In the event of a tie, the teams shall throw one ball a man, starting as the first leg.
5. Any two players will be allowed to have all their nine balls at the start of the game if they are to attend work or are on business. No more than two players will be given these allowances.
6. Each player must place one foot in the chock hole and the other foot behind the white line, when starting to throw. All deliveries shall be made underarm. Where an alley has an actual chock hole the front and sides should be clearly defined or marked. The foot should be within these boundaries. Where an alley does not have an actual chock hole, the front and sides of the chock should be clearly marked with tape or chalk etc.so as to be clearly defined. The foot should be within these boundaries.
7. The ball must leave the hand within one stride and each ball must clear the tin. All pins knocked down with a ball not clearing the tin, or for any other infringement must be cleared from the frame and can only be set for the next player.
8. Any dead wood to be taken off the alley, with any pins touching the diamond left on. The front pin must be hit direct and knocked down before any pins count. If the front pin is knocked down with an illegal ball (a no ball ), the score for that throw is zero.
9. One pin must be marked with chalk and used as the front pin throughout the match. The chalk must not be visible to the thrower. A ball is in play until it leaves the rear of the diamond or rests in the diamond.
10. The opposing captain shall inspect the alley and conditions before the start of the game, as no objections will be entertained once the game has started.
11. The home team will toss a coin to decide upon choice of settings. The home team will provide balls and pins, with both teams using the same balls and pins. The home team shall provide the setters up. Balls and skittles used during practice must be used during the match.
12. Home teams to notify 07927 387817 of result before 2pm Sunday. Home teams failing to do so will be fined £1 per match result. Matches to start by 12.30pm. All players to be registered and signed in by the start of the game.
13. Highest score to be marked clearly by the secretary and witnessed by a member of the opposing team.
14. Players to be signed by the 1st cup round. Registration fee £2 per player. Additional players may be signed until the halfway turnaround. No player is allowed to be transferred after signing. Teams playing illegal or unregistered players to forfeit the points and are also fined £5.
15. All home teams to have the score on view at all times. Both teams to put a man on the chock hole and tin, if this is not done there is no valid argument.
16. Membership of the league shall be open to any Public House or Club provided they abide by the league rules.
17. The league shall be under the sole control of the Executive Committee, who shall consist of the Hon. Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary. Plus five representatives of the league. The finances of the league will be under the control of the League Treasurer, who shall be the only official vested with accepting monies and issuing receipts.
18. The meetings of the Executive Committee and Secretary’s meetings shall take place at the Erewash Hotel, Station Rd, Ilkeston.
19. Any disputes to be settled by the captains. Any dispute not settled shall be brought to the Executive Committee. Their say is final. Any member of the Executive Committee involved in the dispute is not allowed a say in the decision. The League Secretary must be informed of a dispute within 48 hours of the match being played.
20. League fees must be paid by the first cup round. Any team not having paid by this date will not be allowed to play in the cup.
21. Pairs and singles competitions to start at 12:30pm. No substitutions allowed. Singles & Pairs must play at the drawn out venue. No swapping of venues allowed.
22. Secretary’s not attending meetings shall be fined £5. All Secretary’s to be nominated (with contact number) at the start of the season. Only nominated Secretary’s allowed to play in the Secretary’s cup.
23. Teams not turning up to fulfil a fixture at the appropriate start time, without any prior notice, shall forfeit the match and the points, and be fined £5. Teams who inform the opposition in advance, that they will not be fulfilling a fixture, shall forfeit the match and the points, but will not incur a fine
24. Cancellations not allowed. Matches may be re-arranged but must be played by original date on the fixture list otherwise the match is void with no points to either team.
25. All Trophies remain the property of The Ilkeston and District Long Alley Skittle League.
Any team winning a trophy is responsible for it’s safe return for the following season, all missing trophies must be replaced.
26. Any matters not provided for in these rules to be discussed by the Executive Committee and their say is final.
27. The Ilkeston and District Long Alley Skittle League is not liable for any injury, loss or damage occurring during any Skittle League activities.
